Studio STH was engaged for comprehensive services, including site selection and master planning, for the Tweed Valley Hospital project. Set to become the largest hospital in regional NSW, this Level 5 Acute Hospital will feature an integrated cancer service and a mental health service, providing essential care to the growing community.
The master plan is designed to accommodate phased growth, with considerations for the hospital's expansion across three key stages:
- Short-term (5 years): Initial capital development to address immediate needs.
- Medium-term (10-15 years): Major service expansion to meet the evolving healthcare demands.
- Long-term (40 years): Redevelopment opportunities as existing assets reach the end of their life cycle.

In addition to the hospital, the master plan integrates a variety of complementary developments along a central boulevard, including:
- Health Hub for Allied Health Services
- Research and Education Facilities
- Residential Support for remote consumers
- Private Hospital and Consulting Suites
- Multi-deck Carpark
At the heart of the campus lies a dynamic 'Town Square', designed to connect the hospital’s main pedestrian access with retail and educational facilities, fostering community engagement and broader campus utilization. This hub is a welcoming space for patients, staff, and the local community alike.
The master plan maximises the site’s natural features, incorporating a green environmental zone to the North, as well as stunning views to the ocean and hinterland ranges. A series of structured view lines ensures visual connections across the campus, enhancing accessibility and fostering a sense of openness between the hospital, adjacent residential, environmental, and educational spaces.
By blending healthcare, research, education, and community facilities, the Tweed Valley Hospital master plan aims to create a world-class healthcare destination while fostering long-term sustainability and growth.
