Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital Central Production Kitchen, VIC

This is a commercial building, completed in 2007, which has driven its planning and image. It functions as a stand alone facility applying world best practice workflow and production methodology, using a “Barrier Control” strategy to manages contamination risks. The current design of the CPU has been undertaken to provide 6405 meals per day based on a 5 days per week production cycle. This capacity represents up to 33% of the Melbourne Metropolitan Public Hospital (MMPH) System. Steel and zincalume cladding is used as the shell of the building, with portal steel frames, a suspended concrete floor and provision of natural light. The aim is to provide a cost effective functional building that expresses efficiency and confidence, and a pleasant environment for its users.
