The 5 Arnold Street development in Box hill provides essential new services for patients, visitors and staff – including a 16-chair renal dialysis service, a 600-space car park for staff and visitors, and office accommodation. The newly constructed four level building with 6000 sq m of office space, clinical areas and a six-level car park, has been designed to maximize its environmentally sustainable potential. Eastern Health worked hard to obtain its 4-Star Green Star representing Best Practice, recently awarded by the Green Building Council of Australia. Many ESD principles incorporated in the state-of-the-art building design are innovative in the context of a healthcare building. The building features numerous green elements including chilled beam technology, rainwater recycling with a 50,000 litre concrete rainwater tank incorporated into the basement car park, and double glazing to minimize heat transfer. The building’s façade has also been optimized to balance daylight, external views, solar control and privacy issues.
