The Gold Coast University Hospital is an exciting new $1.55 billion tertiary Greenfield hospital. Silver Thomas Hanley, PDT, and Hassell Architects are the consortium of architectural firms known as the GCUH Partnership. A site office for the project is based in Brisbane to deliver this world class facility. The new hospital will have 750 beds. It will include a range of expanded services including cancer, cardiac, neurosciences, trauma and neo-natal intensive care. The facility will also contain a Family, Womens and Childrens Centre. The Premier Ms Bligh stated at the official unveiling of plans on 22 August 2008, that "This is about delivering to the people of the Gold Coast a world-class health facility that will offer the high standard of services they deserve." "As a training hospital, the GCUH will also enhance the medical education and training offered by facilities like Griffith and Bond Universities, the new Queensland Academy for Health Sciences and Tafe Queensland - making it a breeding ground for Queensland's doctors and nurses of tomorrow," she said.
