Silver Thomas Hanley, as part of the Plenary Health team, have won the PPP for Niagara Health System’s new Healthcare Complex in St Catharine’s, Ontario, Canada. The team also includes PCL Constructors and locally based Bregman + Hamann Architects. It is the first hospital to be constructed as a Design, Build, Finance and Maintain (DBFM) project in partnership with Infrastructure Ontario under the provincial governments Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) delivery model. The 375 bed acute care community hospital will provide a full range of acute/critical care, surgical, emergency, longer-term mental health and ambulatory services. The new state of the art health care complex will also accommodate new regional services that have never been available in Niagara, including facilities for a comprehensive cancer care centre, and cardiac catheterization. A high level of ESD is required with the hospital, aiming for a Gold LEED environmental rating.
