Canterbury Road Community Care Unit, Camberwell, Victorial

This Community Care Unit was unique in its model of care. The facility cares for people with mental health issues, and assists them in independent living. The residents were in a heritage Victorian house, that needed to be expanded to a 20 bed unit. The design was to integrate the extension to be in contact with the existing, and provide varying levels of accommodation ranging from single rooms, to 2 bedroom units.This was  specifically for patients who stay up to 9 months learning to be independent. Bedrooms and “hotel” units were provided for transition of patients before they leave. The result is an inviting contemporary residence that has delighted the residents, families and staff. Completion in 2008.
