MUDGEE HOSPITAL PLANNING, DESIGN 'WELL UNDER WAY'

Redevelopment of the Mudgee Hospital is a step closer with the lead design team and key players sitting down to discuss the ‘who, what and where’ for the $70.2 million project.

In June this year, the state government announced an additional $10.2 million for the long-awaited $60 million project, a pre-election promise. The funding commitment also included an $8 million spend on the redevelopment in this financial year (to June 2018).

Member for Dubbo Troy Grant has assured the community that progress has been made in the last five months.

“Even though not much can be seen from the street, planning and design work is well underway,” he explained at the Mudgee Hospital on Monday.

Mr Grant met with the team from Silver Thomas Hanley Architects who are engaged to work as part of the design team.

“The clinical needs of the community have been considered and the clinical services plan has been completed,” member for Dubbo Troy Grant explained.

“Silver Thomas Hanley Architects have been engaged to design a facility that meets the requirements of the clinical services plan.

“The new Mudgee Hospital will include an updated emergency department, general and surgical units, a maternity unit, oral health, renal dialysis and oncology among other services.”

In August this year, Mr Grant and NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard held a public meeting to gather public opinion on the inclusions. The master plans for the project, which will map the new facility on the existing campus, were expected to be unveiled last month. The Master Plan will include the integration and co-location of health services to support efficient flow, improved street frontage and access, and future opportunities to expand.

Earth works are expected to commence mid-2018 with construction to be underway by late 2018.
